2012 will bring many changes to the programs I have presented
since 2005 when Drug Abuse Recognition & Prevention began.

Listening to parent participants, school professionals and experts in the
field of public health, the first change is the prevention focus of
my community programs.

All community presentations and parent workshops will focus more on
Primary Prevention: strategies that reduce access of drugs and
alcohol to youth in order to stop use before it begins such as community
policy changes and parenting techniques.  Reacting to adolescent
problems after they arise is
not prevention. But over time, community
changes can bring about reduction of youth substance abuse.

More to come...

Listen to What Parents Have to Say......

"Your classes gave me the information and the strength to confront and try to educate our older son.  More importantly though,
this has opened up discussions with our younger children as well and I know I am much more aware now and I believe that gives
me some power!"

“Thank you very much.  I feel I dodged a bullet this week.  I know the drug war is not over in my own home but today was a big
step for me.  I feel like I got my son back a little rather than seeing him continue to drift away.  You are a godsend.  God Bless you.”

“I remain in awe of the wonderful work you are doing, your innovative and creative approach! The communities and youth of the
North Shore are very lucky to have a motivational speaker of your caliber and insight so close and available to us!”

“Thanks again so much.  You have made a difference to me and my family.  When I see flashes of maturity in our son, we talk,
talk, talk.  I think slowly we are getting through.  I can’t say yet how things will work out but I am hopeful now and a few months
ago, I wasn’t.”

“Thank you so much….you were educational, funny, insightful and understanding of all the battles we fight as parents, not just
with our kids who like to challenge the rules but with society in general and parents who might not be on the same page as us.”

“I want to thank you very much for your informative and interesting series of workshops!  I learned so much from them, I just can’
t tell you!  I will be thinking about your presentations for years to come.  Already I can’t stop sharing what I’ve learned with friends
that I run into.”

“The information about moldable teenagers that we can’t give up on is good news, and important to pass along.  That’s how
positive change begins.  With good communication about solutions to problems that many, many people have.”

1-Evening Community Education Workshops

prescription drugs as safe and legal alternatives to illegal drug use.  Learn to prevent “self-medicating” to
improve academic and athletic performance.

"HEALTHY HOME, HEALTHY CHILD"- Teaches parents of elementary through middle school
students to prevent inhalant abuse.  Includes the proper way to talk to their young children.

"GUIDING OUR CHILDREN'S CHOICES"- Especially designed for parents of elementary school
students.  It covers tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, over-the-counter medications, inhalants.

"BRIDGING THE COMMUNICATION GAP"- Teach teens and their parents together about how
alcohol affects the adolescent brain differently than the adult brain.

"MOLDING A HEALTHY ADOLESCENT BRAIN":  Parents have the power to increase the
capacity of their adolescent's brain and improve their potential in adulthood.

"A COMMUNITY APPROACH TO PREVENTION":  Learn the best practices for reducing
adolescent substance abuse.  Research shows us that the most effective efforts to reduce youth drug use
and underage drinking is community change.  If you want to start a community prevention coalition or
increase community involvement in a existing coalition, try this motivational prevention primer.

“BUILDING BLOCKS FOR SUCCESS”:  Children and adolescents need assets to grow up healthy,
caring and responsible.  These developmental building blocks are the foundation to becoming a strong, well-
adapted adult.  Parents can learn how to instill these developmental assets to increase their children’s
success!
